Carl holds a BLC and LLB degree from the University of Pretoria. He obtained his LLM (Tax Law) degree from Unisa. He also completed the Postgraduate and Advance Postgraduate Diplomas in Financial Planning at the University of the Free State. Carl is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional and a member of the Financial Planning Institute of Southern Africa.

Carl was admitted as an attorney in 1997, whereafter he practiced as an attorney before joining the Road Accident Fund in 1999.

In 2008 he was appointed as a legal advisor at Old Mutual.

In 2022 he joined Private Wealth Management as legal executive.

His articles have been published in De Rebus Magazine, the Insurance and Tax Journal, Old Mutual’s Premiums & Problems Article Edition and Landbou Weekblad. He is a co-editor of the Old Mutual Premiums and Problems Exam Edition and contributor to the Old Mutual Premiums and Problems Article Edition. He is a co-author of the SA Financial Planning Case Studies, published by LexisNexis.

Carl is also a part time lecturer in retirement planning and insurance and risk management for the Post Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning at the Stellenbosch Business School. He further acts as examiner and marker in estate planning and income tax for the Post Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning at the University of the Free State.
